Cleaning and maintaining synthetic leather is relatively simple; with the right approach, you can effectively extend its lifespan and keep it looking as good as new. Below is a practical cleaning and care guide for various synthetic leather items (clothing, bags, sofas, etc.):
I. Cleaning Methods: Gentle Cleaning Is Key
Water Temperature Control
When cleaning, be sure to use cold water or lukewarm water no hotter than 40°C. High temperatures can damage the fiber structure of the synthetic leather’s backing fabric, leading to deformation or cracking.
Choosing a Cleaning Agent
We recommend using a neutral detergent, a specialized synthetic leather cleaner, or a small amount of diluted dish soap.
Avoid cleaning products containing bleach, strong acids or alkalis, gasoline, or organic solvents, as these can corrode the coating.
Steps (using clothing/bags as an example)
Turn the item inside out before cleaning, paying special attention to areas prone to sweat (such as collars and underarms).
Dip a soft cloth or sponge in the cleaning solution and gently wipe the stained area; do not scrub vigorously.
For stubborn stains, try the following methods:
Oil stains: Wipe with a damp cloth dipped in clear soap.
Marker/ink stains: Gently dab with 75% medical-grade alcohol (test on an inconspicuous area first).
Coffee/tea stains: Apply a baking soda paste, leave for 15 minutes, then gently brush.
Water stains/sweat stains: Wipe with a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water.
Cleaning Sofas
Mix a few drops of shampoo with water and wipe with a soft towel, or rub with the inside of a banana peel to restore shine.
For stains, gently dab with an alcohol-soaked cloth, then wipe clean with a damp and dry towel, and finally apply a care product.
II. Drying and Storage: Key Points to Prevent Damage
Avoid Direct Sunlight and Tumble Drying: After cleaning, items must be air-dried naturally in a cool, well-ventilated area. Direct sunlight can cause fading, aging, and cracking.
Avoid Folding and Heavy Pressure: Clothing and bags should be hung to store, to prevent permanent creases.
Keep Away from Heat Sources: Do not place near radiators, stoves, or heaters to prevent the coating from hardening or melting due to heat.
III. Daily Care: Enhancing Durability
Regular Maintenance
Apply a water-based polish or specialized care oil once a month. Gently apply the product and wipe with a soft cloth to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking.
We recommend using a leather protection spray to create a water- and stain-resistant barrier, particularly for bags and shoes.
Scratch and Abrasion Prevention
Avoid contact with sharp or rough objects to prevent scratching the surface coating.
When storing, cover with non-woven fabric to protect from dust and avoid contact with acidic or alkaline substances.
Special Treatment
For minor scratches, use a color-matching repair paste to fill them in.
For deep damage or extensive staining, it is recommended to have the item treated by a professional care service.
